[yeah and proud of it]

You would've deserved a few hours of death for your mistake, but you're welcome.

Wandering around, I guess. Lucky for you.

but sure, he'll follow.]

Suits me better than the heat, I guess. Rindhallow was in the polar regions, after all.

Where the Temple of Darkness was located, on the planet Willarv.

I wouldn't call it my realm. It's not as if the temple itself had any particular power, after all—just a human construct in a human city.

Something like that—Willarv was a planet with a temple built for each of the most important gods, and Rindhallow housed the Temple of Darkness and the Temple of Death. [a laugh] A cheerless city for the cheerless temples.

[truly the goth city up in the cold north......]

Though they also served the practical function of housing each city's barrier stone, as well as being a base of operations for each Priest and Priestess—not to mention any god summoned to the planet. Willarv placed value on magic skill first and foremost, after all, so the top-ranked magicians were the ones who governed the planet.

[chandra does nothing for her shivering. suffer.]

Technically, any human can cast magic, provided their blood hasn't been too diluted with sura heritage. But yes, it depends on their birth attributes and, above all, their Divine affinity. Although having a high affinity doesn't mean anything if you lack the skill and mentality to make the most of it, those born with a low affinity will never have an aptitude for magic no matter how hard they practice.

... Well, in either case, humans are the race not inherently born with all of their power at their disposal—and who rely on gifts from above. Even the magic they use in my world is ultimately still provided by us, the gods.

[hm.]

It's a little curious, but it doesn't matter much here.

[his mouth twitches upwards into a smirk.]

Not many people have the aptitude to summon a god in the first place, and fewer would try, considering the price. But most aren't arrogant enough to try and summon someone like me without good reason [sometimes you have a shitty reputation in your own temple], so I do generally answer calls, yes.

[he shrugs.]

Well, that and anyone who entertains thoughts of seeing other worlds clearly doesn't have enough to do in their own.

It was by the most recent Priestess of Darkness. I provided her with an oracle when she was young, so she already knew that if she called for me, I would come.

[far more of a guarantee than most magicians get.]

She summoned me during a large-scale sura attack that Agni, the other god summoned to Willarv, couldn't handle alone. As the crisis remained ongoing, I stayed on the planet for the next several years to handle the matter.

I told her how to survive when death would otherwise await her, and that she would one day need me—and that I would answer.

[less that an oracle itself is a guarantee, and more that this specific one he gave included the guarantee as a bonus. does not mention that she's hated his guts since they met so this isn't as sweet as it sounds

...]

No, it's still unresolved.

You would've seen her in my memory, before—the masked woman.

[he does smile a little. is it a nice smile? chandra might be incapable of that. but it's at least less smug-looking than his usual smirks.]

She was a capable summoner. Skilled enough to handle my power, or so much as a human can withstand being tied to a god, able to regulate her emotions and vigour, and knew when to be practical and put aside personal sentiments for the greater good.

[shocking no one these are qualities that chandra values. KINDNESS and EMPATHY? who needs those.]
